Becky’s Breast Reduction- 3 and a half weeks

I had my check-up yesterday and everything looks great! He said I was ahead of schedule as far as my healing goes. He also told me I look like I’ve lost a little weight, which made my day. I was worried before I went in about the t-incisions on each side. The place where they meet was still a bit scabby and also still a bit oozy and yellow. He said that was completely normal and nothing to worry about. He actually pulled off some of the scabs. I thought you never pull off scabs but if the doctor does it I guess it’s ok. :) He said everything was soft and I didn’t have any hard places. I also have full feeling which is good. I don’t have to go back for 6 weeks!
He said in 2 and a half more weeks I could start wearing regular (cute) bras as long as they didn’t have underwire. He still wants me to sleep in the surgical bra because it gives the best shape and they are still settling. I can also go back to full activity in that time. I want to start jogging! That’s something I’ve never been able to do.
In the past 3 weeks my back and neck have felt great! My self-esteem is better and I have more energy. I went from a 38G to a 38C and I couldn’t be happier. Surgery is never fun but I would do this over in a heartbeat. Thanks for reading my blog. Have a blessed week!

  1. I’m so glad I read your blog. I had a breast reduction 2 1/2 weeks ago and my doctor does not make follow-up apts., so I feel like I have had no direction. I was never told what bras to wear or not to wear and I’ve been having the hardest time trying to figure out what is the most comfortable. So far, only my pre-surgery sports bra. I was a 36G before surgery and wanted to go down to a 36C, but I have no idea what they are since the shape is so different. What types of bras have you tried?

  2. The doctor gave me a surgical bra to wear while I was still in the hospital and basically had me wear it 24/7 for the first 3 weeks. Now I can wear sports bras with cups during the day but he still wants me to sleep in the surgical bra because it helps maintain the best shape. I can’t wait to be in cute bras! Hope you are healing well. Thanks for reading my blog.

  3. Thanks for replying so quickly. I have Kaiser, an HMO, and they do not supply patients with surgical bras. I feel a little ripped-off. Oh, well. I think I will start wearing the sports bra I have. It’s the closest thing I have. I am healing well. Although the nipples are extremely sensitive. Did you get that?

  4. The surgical bra is basically a sports bra that opens in the front and has huge velcro shoulder straps, so a sports bra should be good. I did get the sensitivity and was actually relieved. I was afraid I would lose all sensation. It’s not as bad now as it was. Every day is better. :)

  5. Becky: Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to see that you are healing nicely and that you had a positive outcome.

  6. Thanks!

  7. I hope i am as posite as you after tomorrow – looking forward to regularily reading your blog

  8. hi, I’m nearly 2 weeks post op and only had the one surgical bra from the hospital. Walmart had similar ones for about $9 that had the hooks in the front. They are soooo comfy! Very similar to the surgical one but with hooks in the front instead of velcro in the front.
    All the best everyone!
