Our Big Decision
I am writing this blog in pink because my husband and I have decided to adopt a little girl from DHR. We had been enrolled in the required classes a couple of years ago but our circumstances at the time caused us to put adoption on hold. You usually have to wait to get into the classes and since we had quit we thought they wouldn’t want us to try again. So we started on fertility treatments. After 6 months of unsuccessful treatments and much prayer we decided that isn’t the path God had in mind for us. We started really praying about it and decided to try to get back into the GPS classes required to adopt from DHR.
I sent in an online inquiry. After that they are supposed to send you an application through the mail which you then send back and wait to get approved for the classes. Well, that was Monday. Today i get an email from APAC (Alabama Pre/post-adoption Connection) saying I had been approved for classes and my orientation is next Thursday! I haven’t even got my application yet! The woman said to just bring it when I come to orientation. That is totally a God thing. I’m so excited!
To adopt a child from DHR you have to attend 10 weeks of classes that teach you about the children available and how to deal with the issues that come from being abused, neglected, etc. You also have to get certified in CPR and have a homestudy done. The homestudy is basically justĀ to make sure your home is safe and adequate for a child and to make sure you are fit to be parents. I’m not too worried because we already have a 4 year old so our house is pretty kid-proof. Plus, he’s happy so we must be ok parents.
We hope to adopt a little girl 8 or younger. Also, when we’re older I’d like to adopt some older kids that might not otherwise have a “forever family”. Please pray for us as we begin this process. I know it will be stressful at times, but I know the end result will be worth it.

Aww, that’s awesome! That will be the luckiest kid on the planet! I’m praying for a speedy and painless adoption process for you all. You will always be very blessed, and I’m glad that God is opening the doors for you to share your blessing with another child. I love y’all madly!!!
Thank you, my friend.
I love you too.
My husband and I are going to our first GPS class tonight. I have three boys from a previous marriage, one is an adults and the second a senior in hs and he has three girls, all adults. We also have four grand-children. He is quite a bit older than me and I am 37, but I have always wanted to have a daughter. I hope this is the right decision for us as I cannot have anymore children. We have debated on this three years now. What has been your experience since adopting?
Our home study was completed last month but we don’t have a placement yet. The classes and the home study aren’t nearly as bad as they seem at the beginning. Hopefully I can add a new post soon that announces the arrival of our daughter. Let me know how it goes for you. Be blessed!
You have always been a little gift from God. You are a special girl Becky and I will pray for you and your family and a speedy adoption.
